Volvo's sister brand may be forced to change its name

Zeekr is one of the countless Geely brands and thus also related to Volvo. But now the model name 007 could cause problems for the Chinese.

Volvo's sister brand, Zeekr, is apparently launching its model range on the British market later this year. But that could cause huge problems for the Chinese.

Zeekr 007 is in conflict with the law, as 007 is a protected trademark belonging to the family of James Bond author Ian Flemming.

Zeekr, owned by Geely, the same company behind Volvo Cars, Polestar and Lotus, has recently launched a shooting brake version of their sedan model, the 007.

The car, called the Zeekr 007 GT, features a design with a wide light strip at the front and an almost floating roofline. The interior features a 15-inch OLED screen, a 13-inch digital display at the front and a 35.2-inch head-up display.

This is reported by Auto Express .

The Zeekr 007 GT is available in two versions. The single motor version has 416 horsepower, while the dual motor version has all-wheel drive and an insane 637 horsepower. 0 to 100 km/h is over in less than three seconds.

And according to the Geely Group, the car can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just over 10 minutes, regardless of whether the battery is 75 or 100 kWh. But it's just not fast enough or big enough to be considered a copyright infringement.

The range is 541 kilometers according to the Chinese answer to the WLTP norm. But the real problem with the Zeekr model is the name. 007 is a protected trademark in England. And unless the car brand wants to deal with copyright laws, a name change is on the way.

This is not the first time something like this has happened. When SsangYong, now called KG, tried to relaunch itself in Denmark, the Tivoli model was on the program. Tivoli in Copenhagen was not happy with that. So shortly after, the car was called LUVi. But only in Denmark.
