Polestar is making "a Tesla" – hyped electric car has been postponed

Polestar would rather not answer questions when it comes to the Polestar 6. The car, which was supposed to be on the roads in 2026, has been postponed.

Polestar would like to confirm that the Polestar 6 – which in many ways can be seen as a competitor to the Tesla Roadster – has been postponed.

But the Chinese brand won't say much more.

This is reported by Dutch Autovisie , which has sniffed out the news. A spokesperson for the brand would also like to confirm that the car has been postponed.

Unlike the new Tesla Roadster, whose production has been repeatedly delayed, it seemed that the upcoming Polestar 6 would follow a more stringent production schedule. But has the Chinese brand changed its mind?

Officially, Polestar 6 is being postponed because the brand wants to focus on a 'successful' launch of other models. Namely 3 and 4, which are already in Denmark, among other places.

And focus is needed. Polestar is losing money at a furious pace. In the last months of 2024 alone, the brand lost a whopping 2.3 billion Danish kroner on the business. And overall, the brand's sales fell by 15 percent over the entire year.

2024 was also the year Polestar fired its first CEO to make way for another, whose sole purpose is to turn around a thundering deficit.

Michael Lohscheller, as he is called, comes with a tainted CV. Among other things, from the criticized Vietnamese VinFast, which has tried to bribe the police with critical journalists. Read more about it here .

One of Lohscheller's first decisions is to change Polestar's design language. Among other things, because costs need to be reduced and sales need to increase along with efficiency.

The Chinese brand also lost its original chief designer last year, whom BMW managed to hijack for a similar job.

It's still uncertain when the Polestar 6 will go into production. But the same can be said with absolute certainty about the Tesla Roadster. In fact, the only thing certain about that car is that it will be delayed again and again. And again. Now the same story may have befallen its competitor.
