Citroën boss denies: We are not working on a new 2CV

Sources close to Citroën tell English media that the car is on the way. But director Thierry Koskas himself denies that a new 2CV is just around the corner.

This week, the English media outlet Autocar reported that a new Citroën 2CV is on the way.

But in a surprising twist, the brand's director Thierry Koskas has chosen to deny the entire story.

This happens in an interview with the Dutch Autovisie .

– We undoubtedly get some of our inspiration from the past. but we have to look forward. We live in a different world now than when the 2CV was still sold new.

– And we have to be in that other world, says the director.

According to Koskas, there is currently no project on the drawing board that could resemble a new 2CV. And yet. The facelifted Ami will get some design features that could make it look like a modern interpretation of the car with umbrella transmission. But Citroën will not go further.

"I don't want to look back," says the boss.

Koskas, however, would like to maintain that Citroën has a rich history and a sea of legendary models. And in fact, he would not mind at some point coming up with a proposal for a modern interpretation of other cars. But that must belong in the department with exceptions.

According to British magazine Autocar, Citroën is working on a new 2CV. The magazine says it bases the story on an interview with 'a senior source' at the company. The British even go so far as to suggest that the new 2CV will hit the streets by 2028 at the latest.

The decision must have been made, among other things, because the French can only look on with envy as Renault revives names like the Renault 4 and 5 and actually makes the new cars look like modern interpretations of classics. The Renault 5 has already been voted 'European Car of the Year'.
