The B8 GT is the last real Alpina ever

The Alpina B8 GT is the last real car from the brand, while it still has the status of an independent car brand. There are 634 horsepower to do well with.

Back in March 2022, BMW bought its partner Alpina. And now its time as an independent brand is coming to an end.

In any case, the B8 GT, which is based on the now-retired BMW 8 Series, is the last real Alpina, as the designation becomes a trim level from Munich.

The B8 GT has a 4.4-liter V8 engine with twin turbos located at the front between the wheels. This gives the large 4-door 'coupe' a whopping 634 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque.

That's 13 horsepower and 50 Nm more than the standard B7 model. Just enough to shave 0.1 second off the car's 0-100 km/h time, which is 3.3 seconds.

Take a total of 10.5 seconds and the speedometer shows 200 km/h. It is electronically limited to no more than 330 km/h. Then you know.

In addition to the engine, the automatic transmission, all-wheel drive and chassis have been tightened up. And the B8 GT looks somewhat different from the standard model. The Germans from Buchloe have used more carbon fiber on the car, among other things.

A total of 99 units will be produced. And production will begin in July. It is not known whether they have all been sold in advance. Just as it remains unclear what exactly will happen to Alpina from next year.

However, BMW has said that former Polestar designer Maximilian Missoni will become head of design for Alpina.

Here in Denmark, according to figures from the Danish car importers' association, Mobility Denmark, not a single Alpina has been registered in 2024.

It also didn't happen the year before, when the brand's founder Burkard Bovensiepen, who began tuning BMWs for street use in 1965, passed away after a long illness.

Overall, the past few years have claimed the lives of several of the biggest stars in the automotive world. Rally legend Ken Block died in a horrific accident in January 2023, while several of the great car designers have also moved on. Among others, Marcello Gandini, who designed the Lamborghini Miura, died at the age of 85 in March 2024.
