Kia stops selling gasoline cars in Denmark

As the first car brand with combustion engines on its program, Kia is stopping the sale of gasoline cars in Denmark. This is confirmed by the importer.

Kia has decided to stop selling gasoline cars in Denmark. This was confirmed by the CEO of Kia Import Denmark, Rasmus Aagaard, in connection with the publication of the brand's plans for 2025.

– We will focus 100 percent on electric cars, says the director.

The decision means that the remaining petrol cars in Kia's model range will soon be discontinued. These are the Picanto, Stonic, Ceed and Sportage models.

The Rio was already discontinued in 2023, and the Sorento was removed from the program last year. Kia will thus become the first car brand in Denmark to completely stop selling gasoline cars.

This is what FDM writes.

The decision was made in light of the growing demand for electric cars. Kia estimates that 80 percent of its customers will choose an electric car by 2025. "It's about delivering what customers want, and the vast majority of them are asking for electric cars, and that's what we're focusing on," says the Kia director.

The Picanto, which received a facelift this summer, is one of the models that will soon disappear from the market. However, the price of microcars has come close to electric cars in the mini class, with Kia launching the EV2 next year.

Ceed/Xceed are being phased out this year to make way for the EV4 electric car. Stonic has never sold well in Denmark, and Sportage and Sorento sales have fallen in line with the declining popularity of plug-in hybrids.

In addition to the gasoline cars, Kia also expects to phase out the electric car Niro EV, even though it came in a partially new generation just two and a half years ago.

Kia estimates that customers will prefer the dedicated electric car EV3. But in fact, the South Koreans are not the first to skip the combustion engine over the edge.

Back in September, Chinese Volvo announced that it would stop selling all cars with diesel engines in Denmark with immediate effect. The brand has since decided to drop the diesel engine altogether. Read more about it here .

Going forward, all Kia models will be called something with EV in them: EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6 and EV9. The EV4 is a new mid-range model that is about the same size as the Tesla Model 3.

It will be offered as both a sedan and hatchback, with the latter becoming Kia's first European-built electric car and taking over the Ceed's place at the Slovakian plant.
