Mercedes is forced to postpone crucial electric car

Many already see the electric version of the Mercedes CLA as a make or break for the German automaker. Now it turns out that the brand has been hit by delays due to software problems.

Mercedes has been forced to delay the launch of its upcoming electric CLA due to software issues. The delay has been initially confirmed in China, where the launch has been pushed back from April to August.

Several Chinese media outlets can report on the extensive software problems, which Mercedes itself has admitted to having run into. The car brand is conducting extensive testing to resolve the problems, but it is still unclear whether the delay will also affect the launch in Europe.

The CLA is based on Mercedes-Benz's new MMA (Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture) platform, which is designed to support both electric and combustion engines. This flexibility should have been an advantage, but instead has led to complex challenges.

The problems are particularly linked to the development of the electrical and electronic architecture.

This is what Cnevpost writes.

To address these challenges, Mercedes-Benz has established a research and development center in Shanghai. Here, a team of hundreds of people is working to improve the electronic and electrical architecture and technology behind self-driving cars, according to a report from SEK 36.

It remains uncertain how the software issues and delayed launch in China will affect the launch of the CLA in Europe, as the brand has admitted that it has suffered setbacks and is currently undergoing extensive testing.

The delayed launch of the CLA is a setback for Mercedes, which is betting big on electric cars. The CLA is an important model for the automaker, and a delay could have consequences for sales.

However, it is not unusual for new car models to experience delays, especially when it comes to advanced technology such as electric cars.

Mercedes is working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible, but it is unknown when the CLA will finally hit the market in Europe.

The new CLA will not be an all-electric car, however. On the contrary, it has caused great surprise, especially on social media, that Mercedes has opted for a gasoline engine made in China. Read more about it here .
