1,218 electric cars in Denmark may have fatal defects

A fatal error alleged at the factory has caused the Peugeot importer to recall 1,218 electric cars in Denmark.

Peugeot is recalling 1,218 cars in Denmark due to a potentially fatal defect that can cause the wheels to detach from the car while driving.

The fault relates to the so-called support ball, which connects the car's undercarriage to the control arms and suspension.

If these come loose, the wheels can turn 90 degrees, which can lead to loss of control of the vehicle and potentially serious accidents.

The models affected are primarily e-3008s. However, a small number of e-5008s are also included in the recall. Owners of these cars are strongly advised not to drive them, as they have been examined and repaired at one of the importer's workshops.

The fault was initially reported by the Danish Motor Authority, which issued a warning to car owners. Peugeot importer KW Bruun, now known as Wismo Group, has since offered to collect the cars from owners who are unsure about driving them to the workshop.

The recall includes 1,218 cars in Denmark.

The owners of the affected cars will be contacted directly by Wismo with instructions on how to proceed.

In the meantime, owners are urged to avoid driving their cars altogether. According to Motor magazine, Peugeot dealers in Denmark have been told to first and foremost inspect their own demo vehicles.

The importer says that customers' cars must come second, because there is allegedly a shortage of spare parts from the factory in Trémery, France.

This recall is yet another example of how important it is to pay attention to safety notices from automakers and authorities. Even minor errors can have serious consequences, and it's always better to be on the safe side.

This is not the first time Peugeot has had problems with the e-5008 and e-3008. Back in November last year, Boosted reported that the importer stopped deliveries of the cars because some of them were cracking. Read more about it here .
