Per has just 600,000 kilometers on his Citroën 2CV

Per Vestin bought his Citroën 2CV when he was just 18 years old. Today it has just under 600,000 kilometers and he will be buried in it.

Swedish Per Vestin is not like most people. Not only does he own a Citroën 2CV, he also has an incredibly long history with it.

It has clocked up 600,000 kilometers since he bought the car with his mother at the age of 18 in 1968. Even then, the distinctive Frenchman wasn't completely new.

– It wasn't brand new, but it's a 1959 model. Before we bought it, it had only had one other owner, Per Vestin tells Carup.

And while his friends bought Volvo Amazons, Per never parted with the 2CV. It has been with him through the Sahara and in Ghana.

– In the Sahara the piston broke, but I had one with me, so it was possible to change it in less than an hour. These are the kinds of problems you have to expect.

– Otherwise, it was pretty good to drive it through the desert, it's a light car that's easy to get out of if it got buried (in the sand, ed.), he tells Carup .

The almost 70 years on the road have cost 3 engines so far. But neither the body nor the gearbox have been touched.

And Per? He wants to be buried in the car. He's already told his children that. And it's actually not as unusual as it sounds.

If you've never heard of Sandra Ilene West, you should do yourself a favor and google her story. Because she's crazy. West, who was known for being famous, died at the age of just 38. She took a overdose.

But she managed to demand that she be buried in her Ferrari 300 America. And so it was. In May 1977, at 9:15 in the morning, she was buried while sitting behind the wheel of the Ferrari. Dead – of course.

And Sandra Ilene West is certainly not the only one whose last wish was to get behind the wheel. In 2020, South African politician Tshekede Bufton Pitso was buried in a Mercedes-Benz E 500.
