People in electric cars can generally save thousands of kroner on fuel. But now there's a tax break coming for those who also have solar panels.
An increasing number of electric car owners, who have also invested in solar cells, are now experiencing unforeseen consequences from the announcements of Tax Minister Rasmus Stoklund (S).
The Minister has indicated in the Danish Parliament that electric car owners with solar cells can no longer expect to receive a refund of the electricity tax for charging their electric cars.
This is what Ekstra Bladet writes.
This change has created considerable frustration among the affected electric car owners, as it results in a significant additional bill for the state.
One of the electric car owners says that he stands to pay around 4,300 kroner extra per year. He had invested in both an electric car and solar cells as part of contributing to the green transition, but now feels punished for his commitment.
FDM, an interest organization for motorists, confirms that they have received a stream of inquiries from members who are concerned about the situation.
"After the announcement from the charging operators, we have received many inquiries from people who are actually considering dismantling their solar cells because you lose a lot of money, especially if you have a large driving need," Ilyas Dogru, consumer economist at FDM, told the newspaper.
The situation has created uncertainty among electric car owners with solar cells, who are now awaiting clarification from Minister Rasmus Stoklund (S) who has acknowledged the problem and asked his civil service to find a solution.
It is still unknown what the solution will look like and when it will come into effect. Electric car owners are eagerly awaiting a clarification that can give them the clarity they need.
However, electric car owners will have to pay extra. They are not protected when it comes to the increases in periodic taxes that a majority in the Danish Parliament got through in December 2020.
The agreement means that all types of taxes – both the road tax and the green tax – will increase significantly towards 2026. And that not even vintage cars are exempt. Read more about it here .
