Fisker Ocean should have been the grand entrance for a brand new car brand. But now Kristian Ultveit-Moe is left with a pile of burnt-out scrap metal.
The American-Danish electric car Fisker Ocean, which was supposed to revolutionize the market, ended up as a burnt-out wreck for Kristian Ulltveit-Moe, 22, from Ytre Enebakk in Norway. Within minutes, his car was in flames, and the fire department could do nothing.
This is reported by Norwegian TV2 .
The incident occurred on the way to a fast charging station when an error message suddenly appeared on the car's screen.
It warned of an overload in the socket in the trunk. Kristian detected a burning smell and saw smoke seeping into the cabin. He reacted promptly by stopping the car and getting out.
"As soon as I opened the door, it started to burn in earnest. Within minutes the car was engulfed in flames. I felt helpless," says the car's young owner.
Ulltveit-Moe's story with the Fisker Ocean began a few months earlier. He had considered various electric cars, including the Lotus Eletre, HiPhi Z, Porsche Taycan Cross and BMW iX. However, he chose the Fisker Ocean, an electric SUV with a range of up to 707 kilometers.
At that time, the Fisker Ocean was available at a significant discount of 200,000 kroner, as the brand's future was thrown into uncertainty.
– The reason I ended up with that particular car was the range and the price. 707 kilometers of range is really good.
– The fact that it had four-wheel drive, a towbar, a sunroof and fun features didn't immediately appeal, explains Ulltveit-Moe.
Initially, he was enthusiastic about the car. It worked flawlessly and was used extensively. From the end of May to the beginning of November, he covered 40,000 kilometers in the electric SUV. One of the trips was from Oslo to Budapest and on to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and back to Oslo.
– I cover a maximum of 420 kilometers on one charge with an average speed of 110 km/h, he says.
Ulltveit-Moe's experience with Fisker Ocean ended abruptly and dramatically, illustrating the unforeseen challenges that can arise with technology that is rushed to market too quickly.
Since Kristian Ulltveit-Moe bought the now-burnt Fisker Ocean, the brand has gone bankrupt throughout the Nordic region. Back home in the US, the parent company Fisker Inc. is in liquidation. The last employees left a head office in chaos. Read more about it here .
