Volkswagen has built car number 180,000,000

Volkswagen has recently passed an incredible milestone. The German car brand has built car number 180,000,000 since its founding in 1937.

Volkswagen has just reached a historic milestone: Over 180,000,000 cars have been built by the German manufacturer since its founding in 1937. This enormous number testifies to Volkswagen's global reach and importance in the automotive industry.

Although the German car brand has a wide range of cars in its model range, two iconic cars account for almost a third of total production: the Golf and the classic Beetle.

The brand itself announced this in a post on the social media platform LinkedIn .

The Golf, which debuted in 1974, has sold over 37 million units worldwide. The most popular generation was the first, which sold over 6.9 million units. Volkswagen plans to launch a fully electric version of the Golf as the next generation.

The Beetle, with sales of 23 million units, is the second best-selling Volkswagen model. However, the future of this classic car is uncertain. According to Carbuzz, VW executives have indicated that they will focus on more modern models.

Despite its impressive production volume, Volkswagen faces significant challenges. The company struggles with high costs and has lower returns compared to sister companies Skoda, Audi and Seat.

To address these challenges, the Wolfsburg brand may be forced to implement cost-cutting measures, including factory closures and layoffs. In fact, management believes it is downright necessary.

Here at home, the importer, Semler Gruppen, can once again note that sales are increasing. This happens after Volkswagen was replaced by a single Tesla in 2023. Namely, the Model Y. In turn, that car also broke Opel's 37-year-old Danish record at the same time. Read more about it here .
