The car brand McLaren has been sold to Abu Dhabi

The former British car brand McLaren has now been sold to Abu Dhabi after an investor agreed to throw money after the inspection.

Abu Dhabi-based CYVN Holdings becomes the new owner of the McLaren Automotive car brand.

This is what Autocar writes.

The deal fell into place after it became clear at the end of October that a new owner was needed. At that time, it had been just seven months since the car brand had last changed hands.

And now it's happening again. Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat, is now selling the former British car brand.

It is not clear how much Abu Dhabi paid Bahrain for McLaren's road car division. However, even though Mumtalakat is selling its stake in McLaren Automotive, the fund will retain its ownership stake in the overarching McLaren Group, which also includes McLaren's motorsport activities.

This means that Bahrain can also benefit from the fact that McLaren's Formula 1 team has just won the constructors' championship. For the first time in 26 years.

It is not known what price the two states have agreed on. However, in 2021 it emerged that McLaren sold its headquarters in Woking, England, for 170 million British pounds.

This corresponds to one and a half billion Danish kroner. However, it is estimated that it has cost the car brand up to 3 billion kroner to expand the so-called 'McLaren Technology Centre', which has also been the Formula 1 team's actual base since 1998.

When the headquarters was sold, it was all arranged in a so-called sale and lease back agreement. This means that the car brand will pay to rent the huge premises for at least the next 20 years.
