Scandal-stricken car brand will be 'the good guys' again

In a new interview, Volkswagen's design manager says that the brand needs to rethink its design. The brand will be 'the nice guys again'.

Volkswagen itself believes that the existence of the brand depends on three things. That they are stable, well-liked and so somewhat secret. A secret ingredient in other words.

At least if you ask design manager Andreas Mindt, who has only been in the job for a year. Mindt tells Autocar that Volkswagen must return to the starting point as 'the good guys'.

However, Andreas Mindt is also at the head of design at a brand that cannot shake off the Dieselgate scandal.

As recently as this month, a German court ruled that the brand is still cheating on the emissions of a wide range of diesel cars.

The verdict, which came on the basis of a case brought by a German environmental activist organization, means that Volkswagen loses a very special approval. Read more about it here .

In addition, Andreas Mindt took over the job from the former designer Jozef Kaban in January last year, because Jozef Kaban was found too easily. In the words of VW's management, too boring in its designs.

Jozef Kaban was otherwise behind that ID. Life concept, which Volkswagen had hoped would become a cheap car. It has now been significantly changed and is called ID.2 All. Still as a concept though.

Nevertheless, Volkswagen believes that it will put the car into production. Whether the car will be cheap is another matter. The car brand has not yet confirmed the price.
