Tesla closes Cybertruck factory – employees sent home

The factory workers who build the Tesla Cybertruck in Austin, Texas have been sent home with pay. Production is closed until Friday.

Tesla has temporarily closed production of the Cybertruck at its factory in Austin, Texas, and sent the employees home with wages. According to an internal message, employees must take Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday off this week.

They are expected to return to work on Friday. It is unclear what is behind the production stoppage, but it has caused dissatisfaction among some employees who had hoped for extra earnings through overtime in December.

– When I started at Tesla, you could expect to be paid overtime. Now I feel lucky if I reach 40 hours, says an employee to Business Insider .

Cybertruck, which was launched a little over a year ago, has previously been surrounded by a lot of attention.

Before production started, Tesla had received around two million reservations for the car, which was then known for its special design and its different approach to the electric car market.

The first deliveries were met with great demand, and some cars were resold at significantly higher prices, even though Tesla had imposed a clause on buyers not to resell the car for the first year.

But the market for Cybertruck now seems to be more subdued. According to information, today it is possible to have the car delivered relatively quickly if you order via Tesla's website in the USA. This is in contrast to the past, where there were long waiting times.

Tesla has not commented directly on the reason for the temporary production stop. It is unknown whether this is due to logistical challenges, lower demand or something else. At present, there are no reports of how this will affect production in the long term.

For the workers at the factory who have been given the day off, it at least means an unexpected break, although some express concern about lost work hours and the opportunity to earn extra money in the run up to Christmas.

Tesla is not the only car brand to shut down production. Opel does the same. Here the management confirms that it is orders that are missing. Read more about it here .
