Hit by self-righting Tesla – Michael demands DKK 5 million. kroner

In November 2023, Michael Ward was hit by a self-driving Tesla. Now he has raised a compensation claim of 5 million Danish kroner due to the 'unacceptable technology'.

Michael Ward, who was hit by a self-driving Tesla Model Y last November, demands DKK 5 million in compensation.

The accident occurred outside of Portland, Oregon, when Ward's Hyundai was hit by the Tesla, which was in self-driving mode. The collision resulted in head and back injuries for Ward, who has now chosen to sue the Tesla owner.

Ward claims the Tesla ignored a stop sign and thus caused the accident. The lawsuit focuses on the fact that it was "unreasonable to rely on the Tesla driver's self-driving technology".

Tesla is not directly involved in the lawsuit, but its guidelines emphasize that drivers must remain alert and ready to take control when using Autopilot or Fully Autonomous. Tesla has not commented on the matter.

Carscoops writes that.

This is not the first time Tesla has faced legal challenges in Oregon related to self-driving technology. Earlier this year, Tesla was ordered to pay for a flat tire on a Model 3 that shorted into a curb while it was being controlled by what Tesla calls FSD – fully self-driving capabilities.

Tesla has recently been involved in a number of lawsuits in other parts of the United States. Including in a case where a Model S, short with FDS switched on, hit and killed a motorcyclist on a motorway.

In that case, the Tesla driver looked at his mobile phone while driving, and although the driver thus broke Tesla's guidelines, the motorcyclist's family chose to sue Tesla.
