Porsche is now recalling almost 3,000 cars with illegal headlights. The lights are simply too bright, say the authorities.
Porsche is recalling nearly 3,000 cars because their headlights are illegal in the US. It concerns the latest electric versions of the Macan year 2024 and 2025, where the main beam of the headlights exceeds the permitted brightness.
The problem is that the cars are equipped with headlights that are programmed according to European standards. Which does not comply with US regulations.
The recalled cars were produced in the period between 15 March and 4 November 2024, and the recall covers a total of 2,941 cars. When the high beams on these cars are turned on, the brightness is higher than the level that is allowed in the United States.
According to Porsche, this can potentially dazzle oncoming road users, increasing the risk of accidents.
The error is due to a difference between the European standards, called the European Economic Commission (ECE), and the American regulations, which follow the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).

In this case, the main beam is set to meet the ECE standards that allow a different brightness than the US requirements.
To fix the problem, Porsche plans to reprogram the software that controls the headlights to comply with US regulations.
The headlight update will be free for all owners of the recalled cars, and the car brand must issue information about the recall to customers by January 24, 2025.
Porsche has urged all owners to have the necessary adjustment made, as the illegal headlights can affect both the safety of the driver and other road users.
