Special Ford division at risk – all facing layoffs

This year, the Ford management has almost brutally cut back on its European department, which is now primarily managed from the USA. The latest news is that an entire department in Germany is at risk of closing.

Ford is not done thinning out the European organization. What began with layoffs and mergers has now ended with another 4,000 layoffs.

And now it's rumored that Ford will be emptying virtually its entire development department in Cologne, Germany. On Wednesday this week, the car brand announced that it is cutting jobs.

In addition, Ford is considering whether to move or completely sell certain production areas from the European division.

This is written by Automobilwoche .

A total of 2,900 employees will be fired based on the latest round of layoffs. That's about one in four employees at the factory in Cologne.

However, the employees do not pay much attention to the management's announcements. According to employee representative Benjamin Gruschka, 'you can no longer trust the management's statements'.

Among the engineers on Ford's German salary lists, there is doubt as to whether Ford models should even continue to be developed in Europe. It is rumored that several development tasks are to be moved home to the USA.

Ford in England has also been hit hard by cutbacks. Here, 800 employees are being asked to leave their jobs because sales of electric cars are lagging. At the same time, Ford is sharply cutting back on the production of two new electric cars. Read more about it here.

At home, Ford has actually also withdrawn. After the importer business was owned directly by the car brand, it has now been sold to a third party. It happened on the basis of an agreement from December 2023. It finally fell into place in September this year.
