Car brand restarts production after bankruptcy

Recaro's bankruptcy in Germany meant that production at Ineos Automotive came to a standstill. Now there is a prospect of it restarting in January.

Ineos Automotive can probably restart production of the SUV Grenadier and Quartermaster by January 2025.

Production otherwise came to a standstill when Recaro in Germany went bankrupt back in October. A bankruptcy that 200 employees at the factory were directly affected by.

But now there is a prospect that at least Ineos will get going again. In any case, the brand's director Lynn Calder says that a solution has been found.

– The good news is that a solution was found so quickly. We are very satisfied that we have found the best possible solution, says the director in a press release .

The press release also states that 'all parties have been informed and that they are ready to support the restart of production at Ineos.

– Over the course of the summer, we sold as many Grenadiers as we had in the whole of 2023. We are thus on track to have over 20,000 cars on the street before the end of this year.

– We are now turning our attention to preparing Hambach (the factory, ed.) for a restart in early January 2025 and with significant growth in major new markets – including China and Mexico – and significant expansion in the US, I believe that 2025 will be our best year yet, says Calder.

It is still unclear which supplier, Ineos, has been given to handle the task, which until October was Recaros. On the other hand, it may well be that Recaro is still in the picture.

The company, which since 1906 has supplied parts to all kinds of car brands, but is mostly known for its cabins, is 'only' affected by a bankruptcy in the German Automotive department.

However, other bankruptcies and not least closures are lurking in the car industry. Most recently, Volkswagen's management has announced that they can see no other way out than factory closures in Germany. Mass layoffs may also come into question.
