New Porsche 911 GT3 RS has no rear window at all

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS Manthey has a spoiler so gigantic that the rear window has to die. The carbon fiber panel, on the other hand, is 25 percent lighter.

Manthey, of which Porsche owns 51%, has developed a new version of the 911 GT3 RS.

One of the most significant changes is that the car is now delivered without a rear window. Instead, it is fitted with a lightweight carbon fiber sheet that reduces weight from the area by 25 percent.

On the carbon fiber plate, there is also a shark fin antenna inspired by the Porsche 963 racer, which is used for long-distance races – including the 24-hour race in Le Mans, France.

On the roof, six smaller fins have been added to help direct hot air away from the front so that the rear air intakes can draw in cooler air.

On the whole, aerodynamics is the key word behind the upgrades. The large spoiler has been given new sides to increase downforce, and the diffuser on the rear bumper has been made significantly larger for the same reason.

To reduce air resistance, the rims all around the car are equipped with carbon fiber covers. The result is a car generating more than 1,000 kilos of downforce at a speed of 285 kilometers per hour.

In addition to the changes to the car's body, Manthey has also worked on the undercarriage. The front axle has received 30% stiffer springs, while the rear axle has become 15% stiffer.

The suspension has also been improved with new shock absorbers, and cars with ceramic brake discs can now get even wilder brake pads. In addition, Manthey offers details such as carbon fiber door sides with lighting, LED projectors and a towbar that can only be used on racetracks.

The development of the Manthey kit has taken two years because, among other things, time has been spent on extensive testing on several different European racetracks.

One of the next objectives is to improve the lap time at the Nürburgring. In October 2022, the standard edition of the 911 GT3 RS covered the 20.8 kilometer stretch in 6 minutes and 49.32 seconds. Manthey hopes to beat this time, weather permitting.

Owners of the 911 GT3 RS can already order the upgrade package. It will be available in the EU from January next year, while other regions will have to wait until March. The price of the kit has not yet been announced, but a similar upgrade for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS costs around DKK 365,000 (US prices, ed.). And the installation is not included.

When the Manthey kit for the less 'violent' GT3 came to Denmark in January 2023, we could not coax the price out of the Danish importer. Read more about it here .
