Car dealer bought abandoned race track because he can

A Mercedes dealer in Canada has bought an abandoned race track because he can. Now it benefits the customers, it says.

A Mercedes dealership in Calgary, Canada, recently invested in a 64-acre property with a 1.5-kilometer drag racing track.

This unusual purchase allows the dealer to offer customers a unique and safe experience where they can fully test the performance of the cars.

– An ordinary test drive fails to show customers what these high-performance luxury cars can do.

– But with a track of almost 1.5 kilometers you can experience exactly what they are capable of, says Mazen Aboulhosn, general manager of Mercedes-Benz Downtown Calgary, to Calgary CTV News .

The racetrack gives customers the opportunity to test the cars' acceleration and steering in a controlled environment.

It is particularly relevant at a time when more and more electric cars are getting more and more horsepower and inexperienced drivers behind the wheel.

The retailer has several plans for the area. In other words, other than 'just' taking the customers out on a small choral technique course.

– There is great potential in the development of the site.

– We have considered building an entire race track, a drift track and an offroad section. We are in contact with various companies that wish to rent the facilities for specific purposes.

In addition to offering customers to try out the cars in off-road ways, the dealership has also started a YouTube channel with videos from the location. The channel already has over 100,000 subscribers.

It is not the first time that an older racetrack has been given new life. But some people just want that type of asphalt to be left alone. Boosted has previously told about a dentist who had a replica of a famous Formula 1 track built in his backyard. Read more about it here .
