Tesla's cars are involved in the absolute most fatal accidents

New figures show that Tesla's cars, based on the number of short kilometers, are involved in the absolute most fatal accidents. This is not due to the cars' design, say the people behind them.

Tesla is involved in the most fatal accidents in relation to the number of short kilometers, a new American study shows.

For every billion short kilometers in a Tesla, there are 5.6 fatal accidents. This is twice as many as the average for all car brands, which stands at 2.8. Kia takes second place with 5.5 deaths, followed by Buick with 4.8.

The survey is based on data from the 'Fatality Analysis Reporting System' (FARS), administered by the 'National Highway Traffic Safety Administration' (NHTSA) in the USA, and covers fatal accidents on public roads in the USA between 2017 and 2022. That is, for cars that are built produced between 2018 and 2022.

However, the results may be due to factors other than the safety of the cars. Other factors come into play, believes iSeeCars, which has published the results. Blue. drivers' abilities behind the wheel.

– These cars got excellent safety ratings and did well in IIHS and NHTSA crash tests, so it's not a design issue.

– The models on this list probably reflect a combination of driver behavior and driving conditions, which leads to increased accidents and fatalities, says Karl Brauer, chief analyst at iSeeCars.

It has thus not been definitively established why Tesla is involved in a high proportion of accidents. The investigation points out that it may be related to driver behavior and driving conditions, rather than faults in the car's design or safety.

Karl Brauer also emphasizes the importance of paying attention behind the wheel. Some other surveys indicate that screens in new cars in particular are even more difficult.

– A focused and attentive motorist who drives at a legal or reasonable speed without the influence of drugs or alcohol has the greatest chance of getting there safely, regardless of which car they drive, says the chief analyst.
