Ivan's Mercedes survived deadly flooding

Tragically, massive floods killed more than 200 people in Valencia in October. But this old Mercedes marches on.

The devastating floods in Valencia did not kill everyone. This Mercedes was retrieved from a garage after the water receded.

And even though the old W 123 300D, built way back in 1975, is covered in mud and other sludge from the bodies of water, it runs without problems.

The garage the car was parked in was flooded during the storm flood disaster on October 29, when over 200 people died and the cars were under meter-high layers of water and mud for days.

– All I did was change the battery, drain the water from the engine and check the oil.

– The car started immediately, owner Ivan Felisi Rubio tells the newspaper El Mundo .

He believes that the car neither can nor should be compared to its modern counterparts. He also proudly boasts that spare parts for the old German are still 'flowing'.

Ivan Felisi Rubio also can't help himself from taking sharp shots at those who have chosen an electric car today. Because they are wrong, he believes.

– People are convinced that the electric car is the future, and they are very wrong, he says.

The W 123 is also the car of which Mercedes has built the most copies ever. Between 1975 and 1986, 2.69 million versions of the car were built. Several of them are still around today. One of them has covered 7 million kilometers without ever leaving the country it was delivered to. Read more about it here .
