Norwegians furious over new ban on electric cars

There is nothing to be done by relaxing the requirement, which keeps electric cars off the bus lanes in several Norwegian cities. The bus lines have electric cars that would otherwise have to be used for.

In Norway, the Storting has rejected a proposal to give electric cars access to the bus lanes on the E18 west of Oslo again. A majority consisting of the parties Ap, Sp, Rodt, MDG and Patientfokus instead want to invest in increasing the number of buses in the city.

The proposal to allow electric cars in the bus lanes came from Frp, SV and Venstre. But it was voted down.

This is written by the Norwegian NRK .

The background to the debate is that electric cars lost access to the bus lanes in Oslo and Akershus in May this year. This happened, among other things, because a political majority in the capital would like to see fewer cars.

The majority in the Storting believe that the solution is instead to strengthen public transport. Sigbjorn Gjelsvik (Sp) states that Akershus must contribute financially to improving bus operations.

This has caused concern for the FRP, which believes that the state should cover the costs, as it is the state that has created the problem for traffic in the first place.

Ap maintains that it is necessary to limit private cars in general. Marte Mjos Persen (Ap) emphasizes that improved public transport is the solution to the congestion problems.

A majority outside the government in the Storting has also ordered the government to investigate the possibilities for the number of trains in Oslo.

The decision to maintain the ban on electric cars in the bus lanes has received criticism from the mayors of several cities outside Oslo.

They believe that the proposal ignores the traffic challenges in the area. Lene Conradi (H), mayor of Asker, calls the decision a failure and criticizes the Storting for a lack of understanding of the situation. Bærum's mayor, Lisbeth Hammer Krog (H), is also critical and calls the decision pointless.
