Mercedes pays dealers to get rid of electric cars

Mercedes dealers have already complained that it is more than difficult to sell electric cars. Now the brand gives them 3,000 dollars per car to do it anyway.

Back in February 2023, Boosted reported that Mercedes dealers are complaining about the sale of electric cars. Now Mercedes is paying them to do it anyway.

Specifically, sales of the brand's electric cars in the USA are going so poorly that the importer will now pay the dealers 3,000 dollars, equivalent to 21,100 Danish kroner, for every electric car sold.

It says Cars Direct .

The monetary gift to the dealers comes on top of Mercedes' already large discounts on a number of cars. Among other things, the brand is currently knocking 7,500 dollars off the leasing price of an AMG EQS 53. Just as there is a so-called "Incentive Bonus" of 15,000 dollars up for grabs.

Earlier this year, a study that Boosted also mentioned showed that the Mercedes EQS loses an average of 47.8% of its value in one year. However, Mercedes electric cars are not the only ones plummeting on the used market.

The same happens for cars such as the Audi e-tron and Kia EV6 as well as the sister car Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Something suggests, however, that the American dealers must sell some EQS models now, because the model is living on borrowed time. A facelift is on the way. But the EQS does not get an actual second generation, as that means the life of an electric S-Class. Read more about it here .

At home, according to Boosted, there are no similar offers for Mercedes dealers. But if you look at the number of registrations, perhaps there should have been.

In any case, there were only 7 new EQS on the street in Denmark between January 1 and October 31 this year. This is shown by figures from the car importers' interest body Mobility Denmark.
