A white Ford Escort Cosworth has just gone under the hammer at an auction in England. The price absolutely blew away, says auctioneer Gary Dunne.
A Ford Escort Cosworth from 1992 recently set a world record at an auction in Great Britain, where it achieved a price of 2.4 million Danish kroner.
According to auctioneer Gary Dunne, this is a whopping DKK 410,000 more than the previous record for the model. On the other hand, the car, which has just been sold, also has just under 6,500 kilometers from new in 1992.
The story goes that the car has been stored indoors by the previous owner for more than 30 years.
The auction, held by Iconic Auctioneers, otherwise began with fairly low bids. But the white Ford quickly attracted more interested parties. As the price rose, more dropped out until only two remained. An intense bidding war ensued until the hammer finally fell at the record high price.
– Actually, you shouldn't be surprised. It's an absolutely incredible car that hasn't gone very far either. It's not very common that you get an opportunity like that," Gary Dunne told the Daily Mail newspaper.

The Ford Escort Cosworth is a sought-after car. Especially because it was only built in 7,145 examples between 1992 and 1996. The first 2,500 examples, built to the same standard as the rally cars, are in particular demand.
It is not known whether the new owner of the record car plans to drive it or save it as an investment.
Incidentally, it was also Iconic Auctioneers who a few months ago sold an even rarer Escort Cosworth, which a famous TV presenter even owned. Read more about it here .
