Is this the E39 M5 with the world's lowest mileage?

The price is sky high, but the mileage is perhaps the world's lowest in this BMW E39 M5 from 2000.

In Naperville, Illinois, USA, a very yellow and admittedly very lonely BMW E39 M5 is waiting for its next owner. According to the dealer, the car only has a short 1,018 kilometers.

That's it. So in a car has almost a quarter of a century on the registration certificate. The car here is one of the first E39 M5s. This means that it was both built and registered for the first time in 2000.

The price? A staggering 280,000 dollars, equivalent to just under 2 million Danish kroner. In comparison, a brand new M5 sedan costs from 117,000 dollars or just over 800,000 Danish kroner at the same dealer.

Under the hood of the yellow M5 we find a 4.9-liter V8 engine with 400 horsepower coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. The latest bottling has almost twice the number of horsepower, but here you have to make do with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

But back to the yellow copy. BMW connoisseurs will immediately spot two things in the photos. One: the car was ordered with 'extended leather' and not 'full leather'. This means that the instrument panel is completely wrapped in cowhide, but that the back sides are 'just' bloody plastic.

And two…: it's a model delivered to the US market. This means that the dashboard is actually slightly longer on the passenger side. It has something to do with American safety regulations. But it just means that there is a little less room for money.

And that the car is less desirable. For M5 collectors, it is largely the versions of the E39 M5 that were delivered to the European market that count.

The car also does not have a 16:9 screen, automatic lights or windscreen wipers and clear indicators. And for that matter, the updated instrument cluster with gray prints and messy pointers. It only became part of the car's expression after a facelift in 2001.

It is not the first time that we here at Boosted find a classic BMW with a very low mileage. Earlier this year, however, it was somewhat more humble with an E36 3 Series. Read more about it here .
