Mercedes-AMG has bought a competitor from Affalterbach

Hans Werner Aufrecht, who is the A in AMG, then created HWA. Now Mercedes-AMG wants to buy the tuner's motorsport program. A contract must already be signed.

Mercedes-AMG and HWA, founded by the same man – namely Hans Werner Aufrecht – are expanding their collaboration to strengthen AMG's motorsport programme.

HWA, in addition to being founded by the one AMG founder in 1998, is known for its expertise in motorsport. Especially when it comes to Mercedes models.

Most recently, HWA has made headlines in the world's automotive media with a new interpretation of the Mercedes-Benz 190 Evo II. And now HWA becomes a central part of AMG.

That's what Piston Heads writes.

A new company, Affalterbach Racing, has already been founded in the hometown of Affalterbach shared by the two tuner companies.

All with the aim of taking care of the technical aspects of AMG's motorsport for customer teams. Mercedes-AMG Motorsport will continue to be responsible for the international coordination.

Among other things, Affalterbach Racing will develop a new AMG GT3 racing car based on the current AMG GT. The new division will benefit from HWA's extensive experience in motorsport. The aim is 'to continue the good results from AMG's international customer motorsport programme'.

In addition, there are plans to increase the technological exchange between Affalterbach Racing's racing cars and AMG's street cars. This opens the possibility for technological advances in the race cars to find their way into the street cars.

Michael Schiebe, chairman of the board of Mercedes-AMG, states that motorsport is a fundamental part of Mercedes-AMG.

He sees an increasing interest in GT3 cars and expects that the new organization will make it possible for AMG to act more flexibly and efficiently. Speaking very much of AMG, the German tuner division has just built the last 13 cars with the 6.2-liter V8 engine.

An engine that disappeared from Mercedes' street car program in 2014. But then continued for another 10 years as part of Mercedes' commitment to GT3 motorsport. But now it's over. Completely over.
