Kent wants special tires banned in Denmark

If it is up to Kent Laursen, the so-called self-sealing SST tires must be banned in Denmark. They are impossible to recycle.

The government will not ban winter tires in the summer. But if it was up to Kent Laursen, the so-called self-patching SST tires were banned.

Specifically, it is the sticky mass inside the SST tire itself that makes it impossible to recycle. However, the sorting of the tires can slip, and then they smoke mixed with the regular tires. This may mean that there is a risk of fire in the recycling facility.

He says this in an interview with Motor magazine .

The way the tires are manufactured makes them impossible to recycle. And it's a problem for Kent Laursen, whose company makes a living by collecting used tires from workshops around the country.

– We propose a hefty increase – perhaps tenfold – as a deterrent for consumers against retrofitting SST tyres.

An additional fee will, among other things, pay for transport to pyrolysis plants abroad if the subsidy is large enough and the plant is approved by the environmental authorities, says Kent Laursen to the media.

The Danish Environment Agency says that they are in the process of analyzing the so-called 'Danish tire scheme'. Including whether the SST tires are a problem. However, the authorities will probably have something more to say about it sometime in 2025.

Back at the winter tires, it's about time. At least to change to them from summer tires. But the authorities are lying to motorists when they say that no basis can be found for a legal order. At least one major tire company thinks so. Read more about it here .

And now we're at it with winter tires. Both Sweden and Germany have banned the so-called "M+S" branded tires this year. This means that even used tires, which may have plenty of monster left, are actually illegal. However, that rule has not been implemented in Denmark or other EU countries.
