Born in Affalterbach is AMG's first electric SUV

For the first time ever, AMG is building an electric SUV from scratch. The name is currently very much internal Born in Affalterbach

Mercedes' performance division AMG is developing an electric SUV on the AMG.EA platform.

The new model, which is the first SUV developed exclusively by AMG, is expected to set new standards in electric performance. At least if you ask in Affalterbach, where AMG is based.

The development of the SUV marks a milestone for AMG, which until now has focused on performance-oriented versions of existing Mercedes-Benz models.

With the AMG.EA platform, AMG is now taking the plunge and designing a car from the ground up with a focus on electric powertrain and AMG's characteristic chorus dynamics.

The car, referred to internally as "Born in Affalterbach", is equipped with advanced electric motors and has undergone extensive test courses in northern Sweden.

Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Mercedes-AMG, states that "Born in Affalterbach" was designed based on the philosophy "AMG first, Electric second", underlining that AMG's focus on driving pleasure and performance remains intact even though the powertrain is electric.

The new SUV is expected to follow in the footsteps of previous AMG models such as the SLS and GT and thus help cement AMG's position as a leading manufacturer of performance cars.

The Danish importer does not mention anything about whether you intend to take the car to Denmark. Or in general when a production version is ready. But it is mentioned that the car 'will soon be ready for the first test runs'.

Having said that, not everything from AMG is immediately a success. In fact, the Germans are struggling to sell the latest C63 AMG at all.

The model, which has lost its biggest distinguishing feature, a big V8 engine, now runs around with four cylinders and a hybrid package. And the customers don't mind. In fact, dealers especially in Germany complain that customers are slipping over to both BMW and Mercedes.
