Sweden will introduce strict Danish requirements for vintage cars

In Sweden, vintage cars older than 50 years are exempt from periodic inspection. But several politicians now want to change it according to the Danish model.

In Sweden, vintage cars that are 50 years or older are exempt from the periodic inspections that are otherwise a requirement for newer vehicles. This rule, which came into force in 2018, replaced a previous system where only cars from before 1950 were exempt from sight.

But now there are indications that that arrangement is also on its way to the dustbin.

According to information from various sources, the Swedish Transport Agency is considering reintroducing a form of inspection for older cars.

Although there is not yet a concrete proposal, there are many indications that a change in the rules can nevertheless both be and is on the way. The Swedish Transport Agency has confirmed that it is in the process of updating a number of regulations. Including those relating to the periodic inspection of passenger cars.

– Proposals will soon be sent to consultation and then all organisations, control bodies and also individuals will be able to respond to consultation, says Sofia de Bourg Wetterlund, communicator at the Transport Agency, to Vi Bilägare .

Before a final decision is made, the proposed changes will be sent for consultation. This gives various organisations, control bodies and private individuals the opportunity to make proposals for the proposal, because it becomes actual legislation.

It is not yet known how a possible inspection for vintage cars will be designed. It may be a more relaxed version of the regular periodical view, or it may focus on specific safety aspects relevant to older choral clothing.

At home, vintage cars must be seen. But in Denmark, car owners can already have the cars registered as classics when they are 30 years old. This means that there are 8 years between each vision. The same rule applies to vintage cars. That is, cars that are 35 years or older.

By the way, did you know that vintage cars will increase dramatically in weight tax until 2026? It was adopted when Christiansborg last changed the car taxes back in 2020. Read more about it here .
