Police found two errors – what is not allowed here?

The mistake – or rather the mistakes – are almost eerily common in traffic. But can you spot what the police think is wrong?

During a routine check at Forus in Sandnes, the Norwegian Road Administration stopped a car with a trailer. The trailer, which was loaded with wood, was found to have two serious faults resulting in a police report by the driver

This is written by Norwegian TV2 .

Firstly, the driver did not have the necessary license to tow the trailer behind the car, as the total weight exceeded 5,000 kilos. Next, the load was placed on top of the trailer frame instead of on the bed. Something that in the eyes of the police is both illegal and dangerous.

– The trailer was also banned from traveling because there was no marked load protruding more than one meter behind the trailer. The trailer was not suitable for this type of load on top of the frames, and was therefore not allowed as such at all, writes Johanne Elise Reianes from the Norwegian Road Administration in her report.

Senior engineer Frode Nilsen from the Norwegian Road Administration warns against placing loads on top of the trailer itself.

– The load will suddenly be able to fly forward and into the rear window like a projectile. The load will also move up and down on the ends and in the middle, so it can eventually lead to damage to the car, he explains.

Nilsen further points out that this way of towing with a trailer puts stress on the trailer's frame construction itself, especially during acceleration and braking. If the frame gives way, cargo can become detached. And then there is not far to an even more dangerous situation in traffic.

To properly secure the load, it is recommended to remove both the front and rear sides of the trailer and then place the load on a flat area. Using pallets under the load can improve the angle of the straps and ensure better fastening. Also remember to mark protruding loads with a plastic bag or a reflector.

Here at home, it is not uncommon for motorists to hand in their driver's license because they do not respect the trailer rules in the Road Traffic Act. In fact, this kind of thing killed 8 motorists back in the month of March this year. Read more about it here .
