Formula 1 team fires Kevin Magnussen's rivals

According to Auto Motor und Sport, there is no longer any doubt that Finnish Valtteri Bottas is done with Sauber, who will become Audi in 2026.

Sauber and Valtteri Bottas are ending their collaboration after three seasons. The Finnish Korer, who is also known as one of Kevin Magnussen's rivals, as well as his Chinese teammate Zhou Guanyu, will both stop with the team after the 2024 season.

The decision to separate came on the basis of conversations in which both parties assessed that the future goals could no longer be met together.

– This decision is difficult for everyone. But we realized it was time to move on. I am grateful for my time at the team, says Bottas.

Sauber's COO, Mattia Binotto, also expresses gratitude to Bottas' efforts over the years, but at the same time emphasizes that the team is now focused on the future. There is no information yet on who will replace Bottas and Zhou in the coming season.

Bottas, who joined Sauber in 2022 after several years at Mercedes, quickly became a central figure in the team. His experience helped Sauber finish sixth in the Constructors' Championship that year.

Despite his considerable efforts and knowledge, the collaboration was terminated, indicating that Sauber and Bottas now have different strategic ambitions.

Bottas' next career move is expected to be revealed soon, with rumors linking him with various teams, including a possible reserve stint at Mercedes.

Although it is not uncommon for Corre to change teams, Bottas' departure is significant as he was known for his experience and stability. The departure also comes at a time when Sauber is facing potential changes and new objectives.

How the future will shape up for Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, as well as who will take over their seats, remains to be seen, but more information will undoubtedly emerge in the coming weeks.
