China wants France to drop EU tariffs on electric cars

China wants France to find a solution to how the Chinese electric cars can escape the punitive tariff on electric cars that the EU has just adopted and implemented.

China has asked France to assist the country in efforts to resolve the pending conflict with the EU over tariffs on Chinese electric cars.

According to China's Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, there is a need for a solution that caters to both European and Chinese car manufacturers.

Sondag met Wang Wentao with France's Deputy Trade Minister Sophie Primas in Shanghai, where he expressed concern about the EU's measures against Chinese electric cars.

Investigations, which according to the EU reveal illegal state subsidies for Chinese electric cars, have created significant barriers to cooperation between the two regions' car industries, according to Wang.

The EU's decision to impose punitive tariffs on imports of Chinese electric cars, introduced in October, has increased the tense atmosphere between the EU and China.

Wang defends himself with what he believes is state aid to the country's car industry 'which is completely within the framework' of World Trade Organization (WTO) guidelines.

He openly criticized the EU for taking hasty and ill-considered decisions. According to Wang, China's authorities are acting in accordance with the law and within international rules, while accusing the EU of a "rushed" review that could harm the interests of legitimate Chinese producers in the European market. Including on the French market.

In his fashion with the French deputy trade minister, Wang emphasized that China would like to cooperate with the European Commission to find a solution. A solution that everyone, according to the Chinese, gets something out of. However, the Chinese will not say what they imagine such a release entails.

In response to the EU's actions, China has launched its own investigations into European food products such as pork and dairy products. In addition, China has imposed a temporary tariff on whiskey from the EU.
