Officer fired for speeding 196 km/h police car

A Swedish police officer has been both convicted and fired from his job because he drove 196 km/h in an 80-zone in one of the police's cars.

  • A Swedish officer has been dismissed after a number of offenses including crossing the road at 196 km/h in an 80 zone in a police car.
  • The officer is suspected of stealing sweets, a colleague's computer and shoplifting.
  • The former has also made almost 200 illegal searches in the police system.

A Swedish officer who was caught driving 196 km/h in an 80-zone in a police car in February has lost his job.

The dismissal comes after a long period of unacceptable behavior and lack of work effort. The Committee for Personal Responsibility in Bergslagen's police district justifies the dismissal with the fact that the officer "grossly disregarded his obligations to the employer."

The officer's problems began in the summer of 2023, when colleagues noticed a change in his behavior.

He seemed "mentally absent", and the situation only got worse after the turn of the year. The officer was reassigned and given his 'own' car. But he did not use the car as agreed. There were also reports that the officer cut recklessly.

In addition to the serious speeding offence, the officer is suspected of a number of other offences.

He is charged with computer burglary and theft of candy from the police's unmanned kiosk. In addition, he is suspected of having stolen a colleague's computer and of shoplifting. The now former officer has also carried out almost 200 illegal searches in the police system.

Trust in the officer is now completely gone, and the police circle sees no other way out than a dismissal. However, another officer has been acquitted of threatening a motorist with a firearm. Read more about it here .
