The number of electric cars in Denmark set a record in October

There have never been more electric cars in Denmark than was the case with new registrations in the month of October. 60 percent of new cars run on electricity.

In October 2024, 14,409 new passenger cars were registered on Danish roads, which marks a new record. Compared to October last year, when 13,231 cars were registered, this is an increase of 8.9 percent. From the start of the year to now, car sales have been stable with a total increase of 2.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

The share of electric cars in total sales also set a record in October. Among the new registrations were 8,832 electric cars, which meant that electric cars made up 61.3 percent of the month's total car sales. This surpasses the previous record set the month before and reflects a clear trend towards electric cars. Looking at the whole year, electric cars now account for 49.5 percent of the total sales of new cars.

According to Mads Rorvig, managing director of Mobility Denmark, this development is clear.

– We can see that the Danish car market is solid and stable compared to last year, and we are very satisfied with that. Sales in October were particularly good, and we are positive that the Danes have a taste for new cars, says a press release .

Rorvig also comments on the increase in electric car sales and points to the need for continued political attention to ensure that the current trend can continue.

– Electric cars continue to gain better and better traction in Danish sales, and we are delighted that we are currently in a situation where we can celebrate new records month after month.

– At the same time, we are close to half of car sales in 2024 being electric cars, and it is also a very special milestone that we predict we will achieve," he says and emphasizes the importance of stable taxes from 2026.

The top 10 best-selling car models in October 2024 also show a clear interest in electric cars. The list looks like this:

Volkswagen ID.4 579
Tesla Model Y 525
Audi Q4 e-tron 426
