Ford promises that the brand's electric cars will not be boring

Ford will continue to build cars that are both fun and fast. Even if the cars run on electricity. At least if you ask them yourself.

In recent years, Ford has reduced the number of ST and RS models in the Ford Performance series. Both the Fiesta ST and Focus ST have been phased out, and only the Puma ST and Mustang models remain.

But Ford plans to continue producing performance models, although the focus is increasingly on electric cars.

– If you look at Ford Performance, we have never been bigger: Formula 1, Dakar, WRC, Pikes Peak, Nascar.

I can't think of another brand that is present everywhere, so it has to have an impact on our everyday cars, says Amko Leenarts, who is head of design at Ford Europe, in an interview with Autocar .

Leenarts confirms that there is still a future for fast Ford models, especially in the era of electric cars. He emphasizes that Ford's commitment to motorsport is an investment that must be reflected in the brand's regular street cars. Also on a global level.

– If we don't do that, we are making the wrong investments. So it must be transferred to our normal model programs globally, he says.

In other words, Ford has plans to integrate performance technologies and design into their electric cars. This could mean that future electric cars from Ford will have a sportier driving experience and a more dynamic design.

Although the Ford Performance range has become smaller, Ford's ambitions in motorsport and performance cars remain large. Although Ford's entry into Formula 1 from 2026 is little more than financial support for Red Bull's budget.
