Electric cars neither have nor are they necessarily the answer to everything. Even among the owners, there are clear anchors. This is shown by a new Swedish study.
Electric car owners generally have a positive attitude towards their choice of car, but the Swedish part of the charging operator Zaptec's latest survey also reveals the points that pull satisfaction in the exact opposite direction.
The survey, which was carried out in collaboration with Sifo, shows that the high purchase price is still the thing that most current and potential electric car owners complain about. In addition, electric car owners experience challenges with the car's range in cold weather.
– The high purchase price is a factor that deters many from buying electric cars," says John Wastring, managing director of Zaptec Sweden.
The survey, which is based on interviews with 1,032 electric car and plug-in hybrid owners in Sweden, divides the dissatisfaction into the following points.
- Expensive purchase price – 46 percent
- Worse performance when cold – 42 percent
- Too short range – 36 percent
- Cows at charging points during long weekends and holidays – 30 percent
- That lightning charging is expensive – 30 percent
- Payment at public chargers – 26 percent
- Too few public charging stations – 24 percent
- That charging does not work at public charging stations – 23 percent
- Worry about whether the battery will break – 8 percent
- Problems with charging at home – 5 percent
However, no one comes and removes the electric car owners' biggest complaint. At least not for the time being. Because even if both the electric cars themselves and the batteries become cheaper, it is not something consumers notice.
In addition, this week the EU has just imposed a new punitive tariff on all electric cars that are built in China. The car, which is considered by many to be Denmark's cheapest offer for an electric car, has been greatly delayed. Read more about it here .
A brand like Mercedes has long since shot down the hope of cheaper electric cars. The brand from Stuttgart simply does not believe that it can be done.
