Russians put V16 engine made for chainsaws in Lada

It sounds crazy. Which it is also the car. But a Lada with a V16 engine made from 16 chainsaws actually exists.

An old Lada has been given new life with an unusual V16 engine constructed from 16 chainsaws. The project sounds as crazy as it is. Behind it is a Russian group of friends who call themselves Garage 54.

Garage 54 are the same guys who have fitted a Lada Samara with wheel covers instead of wheels and frozen an old BMW.

But back to missing the engine. Or the 16 of them. The challenge was to make the big engine fit in the small Lada.

– It will stick out more than a meter. The only thing we can do is extend the car, says Vlad Barashenko from Garage 54. The solution was to extend the front of the car and equip it with a new drive shaft.

The engine, built from 16 Hüter BS 62 chainsaws, has a total volume of 930 cm3. Each chainsaw engine contributes 58cc and about 4.5 horsepower.

– Each engine is 58 cubic meters and together it should give the car approximately 72 horsepower and a volume of around 918 cubic meters, it's a simple calculation," explains Vlad Barashenko.

Starting the engine was and still is a challenge. But after some adjustments it worked.

– It looks like a strange car. But now we have to see if it starts, says Vlad Barashenko.

The car was short, albeit under great protest, with quite a bit of row development.

– It smokes a little, but it ventilates by itself, the team states.

In a closing clip, Ladan is seen driving on a Russian highway. "There probably weren't many who believed that, But you can cut it like a chainsaw," says Vlad Barashenko.
