Lancia puts first rally car in 30 years up for sale

Lancia's first rally car in 30 years, the Ypsilon Rally4 HF, can now be bought by anyone (with enough money…) The car sends 212 horsepower through the front wheels.

Lancia is back in rallying with their first rally car in 30 years. The new Ypsilon Rally4 HF, with 212 horsepower and front-wheel drive, is now available to customer motorsport teams at a price of 80,416 euros.

– If you dreamed of the race track as a child, you dreamed of Ferrari's red color. But if you dreamed of becoming a rally choir, you dreamed of Lancia, says Miki Biasion, double world rally champion with Lancia in 1988 and 1989, in a press release .

The Ypsilon Rally4 HF marks a new chapter for Lancia, which is attempting to regain the brand's former dominance in the sport of rallying.

The car is based on the Peugeot 208, a well-known model in the rally world. The most powerful production version of the Ypsilon is fully electric, just as the Jeep it shares with it also shares a platform with.

Lancia has had a turbulent period in recent decades. The brand's focus on luxury and fashion meant that its image as a manufacturer of high-performance cars suffered.

A brief and unsuccessful period as Europe's Chrysler, followed by a reduction of the model range to a single car – an expensive Fiat 500 – has further challenged Lancia's position.

With the Ypsilon Rally4 HF, Lancia is now taking a step back towards its roots in motorsport. Whether it will succeed in reviving the brand's glorious past remains to be seen.
