The plan is for no one to die in traffic in Los Angeles by 2025. But the number of traffic fatalities has only doubled.
It is a strong, but also somewhat difficult goal that the politicians in Los Angeles have set themselves. No one is allowed in the city's traffic, and that by 2025 at the latest.
However, it has proven to be quite a challenge in the most populous city in the state of California. In fact, the number of traffic fatalities in the city just sets one record after another from year to year.
Last year, 337 people were killed in LA traffic, 8 percent more deaths than in 2022. To make matters worse, 2024 is off to a particularly bloody start.
The LA Times writes that.

In less than four weeks, nine have lost their lives in car accidents. Five of them were pedestrians. That's more than one traffic kill a day.
For comparison, figures from Statistics Denmark show that 154 people lost their lives on Danish roads in 2022.
Furthermore, it is slow to implement the 'mobility plan', which the city government of Los Angeles wants to have completely phased in by 2025.
Here, the goal of 0 traffic fatalities is only a small part of the plan. Among other things, only around 5 percent of 4,000 kilometers of road have been rerouted, which must be made more 'pedestrian and cyclist friendly'.
