Tesla's attempt to make the autopilot function comply with the law has rendered the popular feature useless, according to several motorists.
Tesla's attempt to prevent abuse of the autopilot function in the brand's cars is now causing drivers to complain.
The update comes directly on orders from the American traffic safety authorities, where they want to prevent drivers from, among other things, crawling around in the back seat and letting the car 'make' the trip itself.
Which, by the way, the autopilot does not make Tesla's models capable of at all. But the update has not gone as Tesla had hoped.

And now several owners are complaining that the autopilot function in their cars has become completely useless since the update.
The update, which Tesla has sent out to the American Model S, Y, X and 3 owners, reflects the function level of the autopilot here at home in Europe, where it is not at all possible to abuse the self-driving feature.
At least not in the way the Americans have been able to until recently. Brandon Yang, who has been a Tesla owner for less than four months, tells The Drive that the latest update is really causing problems.
At first, the car's safety and driver assistance systems did not work at all. And a subsequent update caused the car's entire rear computer to lock up.
According to Yang, the car keeps trying to download the same update. Just like it won't shut down either.
Initially, Tesla's own people told Yang that a new computer for the autopilot was necessary in his car. But a week later, Tesla's technicians thought they had solved the problem with some new software.
Brandon Yang isn't the only Tesla owner with that problem, though. On the social media site Reddit, several Tesla owners are complaining about exactly the same thing.
In fairness, Tesla is far from the only car brand plagued by software bugs. Back in November, a Tesla competitor was hit by customer anger when the screens in their cars went black.
