Postnord's electric cars go far enough – limited to 90 km/h

Postnord in Sweden does not go far enough in their electric cars. Therefore, it has been decided to limit the cars to 90 km/h. Only in this way can the cars avoid charging.

Postnord has decided to limit the speed of all its electric cars to 90 km/h. The decision has been taken to extend the range of the electric cars and ensure that postmen can carry out their routes without having to take a charging break.

– We spend more and more time coring the routes, and it is very much about range. 80 km/h is a breaking point, where we consume more electricity, and then it is not enough, and we do not get around the route," says Dan Jönsson to Sveriges Radio .

Postnord considered setting the speed limit to 80 km/h to further optimize the range. However, this option was not selected as it could create dangerous situations and irritation for other road users. Especially on the motorways.

– When you do 80 km/h on the motorway, we become an annoyance, explains Dan Jönsson.

The decision to introduce speed limiters has drawn criticism from some postmen who fear it will lead to longer delivery times and problems getting around routes. However, Postnord's management rejects these concerns.

– This should not affect the customer in any way, says the management.

Postnord has invested in 400 electric Opel Combo-e as part of a gradual transition to a fully electric fleet. With around 7,500 cars, Postnord is one of the largest car owners in the Nordics, and electric cars currently make up about a third of the total fleet.
