Elon Musk rejects Tesla Model 2 – calls it "ridiculous"

The promised Tesla Model 2, which was supposed to cost less than 25,000 dollars, will never come. Now Elon Musk calls the idea ridiculous.

Tesla and Elon Musk have previously promised a cheap electric car, called Model 2, for 25,000 dollars, corresponding to 172,000 Danish kroner. Now the car is useless.

As recently as last year, however, Musk rejected rumors that the car would not come to fruition, calling it "logn". But now Tesla has changed plans.

In a conversation with stock analysts after Tesla's quarterly report, which was published on Wednesday evening Danish time, where the profit was 24 percent higher than expected, Elon Musk killed the idea of a cheap Tesla.

– I think that it is fundamentally pointless to have an ordinary car model for 25,000 dollars. That would be ridiculous. It is completely contrary to what we believe in a world driven by autonomy, Musk said.

Instead of the Model 2, Tesla is betting on a self-driving electric car, called the Cybercab, which is expected to arrive in 2026.

According to Elon Musk, the Cybercab will cost around $25,000 and can be both rented and owned.

"Cybercab will cost about $25,000. You can buy it and own it yourself if you want," said the longtime Tesla executive and the world's richest man.

Even if the Model 2 doesn't materialize, cheaper variants of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y may arrive in 2025.

These cars will be produced in the same factories as the current models and, according to Musk, can cost less than 30,000 dollars, equivalent to 207,000 kroner, when the support for electric cars in the USA is taken into account. The price in Europe without subsidies is still unknown.
