The new Tesla Cybercab was for many a disappointment. But there is one thing in particular that everyone must stick to when it comes to the frontless taxi – namely wireless charging.
Tesla is now ready to show how the company intends to use wireless charging. Initially, however, this only applies to the unmanned taxi, Cybercab.
The technology works in that a car like the Cybercab can charge the battery automatically, without requiring human intervention.
This release is relevant in connection with Tesla's work in developing self-driving cars. They aim to create a system where the cars can charge without manual help. Something Tesla has been longing for in connection with the brand's pursuit of self-driving cars.
Already in September, Tesla received a patent for the technology for wireless charging, which was demonstrated during the We Robot event in Los Angeles.
Here, Tesla also presented its new models, including the Cybercab and Robovan, both of which are designed for self-driving use. However, during the presentation the technology was not fully explained. The exact function of the charging method was only revealed later.

In a video clip, a Tesla Cybercab can be seen rolling over a charging pad placed on the ground.
The car starts charging when the battery level is at 35 percent, and charging takes place with an output of 25 kW. According to Tesla, the charging plate is over 90 percent efficient, which is a high percentage compared to the standard for charging solutions in private homes.
When the Cybercab battery has reached 80 percent, charging stops and the car moves on to its next task.
Tesla has not yet revealed whether this type of charging can also be used on other car models, but previously the company has shared photos of wireless charging of another Tesla model in a garage.
The specifications that were presented show that Tesla's focus has been more on ensuring that their self-driving cars work reliably, rather than increasing the charging speed.
At the end of 2023, Tesla also acquired a German company that specializes in wireless charging. It is possible that the effect of the charging plates will increase in the future, which can further improve the system.
