Saab 900 Turbo resurrects 12 years after bankruptcy

It is now almost 12 years since the car brand Saab went bankrupt. But Retropowercars will revive the 900 Turbo model with a so-called rest mod.

The Saab 900 Turbo is a classic car model that many car enthusiasts still have a strong love for, even though Saab went bankrupt almost 12 years ago.

Today we see several projects where iconic cars are brought back to life through a restomod process. Restomod combines the best of the past and the present by rebuilding old cars with modern components without compromising on the classic lines of the cars.

The demand for these unique cars is growing rapidly, and we have previously seen examples such as the Saab 900 Turbo, which was restored by Belgian Saabjorn.

This new attempt, which is expected to be completed before the end of 2024, gets an updated 2-liter turbo engine with a whopping 350 horsepower and a design inspired by the Aero version. But Saabjorn is far from the only one who has jumped on the popular model.

A new and exciting restomod project comes from the British company Retropowercars, who are working on their own version of the Saab 900 Turbo.

The company's designer, George, has been working with the car for months, where every single detail has been carefully reviewed and adapted to the customer's wishes.

– I have worked on this Saab for so long that I have almost lost track of time. It's really a challenge to hit exactly the expression the customer wants, says George about the demanding design work.

The design has been developed in Photoshop and the car now looks almost finished. At least in virtual form. Still, the process is far from over.

Although the car appears to be reaching the final design stage, George doesn't expect the buyer to be completely satisfied just yet.

– Hopefully he will approve the design soon, but it is always an ongoing process," he adds.

It is clear that the restomod concept, and especially the work with the Saab 900 Turbo, is something that captures both car enthusiasts and designers worldwide. Other restomod companies have thrown themselves at e.g. Ford Sierra Cosworth. Read more about it here .
