The road rules in Norway and Denmark are very similar in many respects. But some of the Norwegians still fall directly into a Danish trap.
In Norway, motorists must park on both sides of the road. Even if the cars are facing the direction of the crosswalk. This kind of thing is strictly prohibited in Denmark.
Specifically, the Danish Traffic Act states that: " Stopping or parking may only take place on the right side of the road in the direction of traffic ".
And that confuses a lot of motorists who come from further north. Because in Norway there is nothing to prevent motorists from parking on both sides of the road.
You have the same 'problem' with Norwegians in Sweden. Here, parking on the left side of the road is equated with parking on footpaths and cycle paths or in front of junctions, where all parking is prohibited.

However, the Norwegians should not count on the fact that they can simply go home to Norway and thus avoid forgetting everything about the stall. Neither on the Danish nor the Swedish side of the Øresund.
Across the countries, the authorities have entered into agreements which mean that the stalls are automatically sent directly to motorists' addresses. It is the so-called 'State collection centre' that helps Sweden, Finland, Iceland and thus also Denmark.
The same applies to speeding tickets and certain parking tickets/charges. Earlier this year, the EU was inspired by this Nordic model, so that more motorists can now more easily get stalls throughout the union.
Back to the prohibited parking in Denmark, as you know, there are almost no rules without exceptions. In the Traffic Act it also states that: " On roads with less traffic and roads with one-way traffic, stopping and parking may, however, take place on the left side ".
Parking on the left is not the only type of parking that is illegal in Denmark. Most recently, an otherwise widespread form of parking was made illegal in 2022. Read more about it here .
