The sister car, the BMW Z4, is probably on its way out. But the Supra remains stuck in Toyota's model range, say the Japanese.
The BMW Z4 is on its way out. And a replacement is not planned when the assembly line stops in 2026. It's just not the same as the sister car Toyota Supra also disappearing.
Because although the two cars share a platform and are even built at the same factory in Austria, there are no plans for a model range without the Supra.
This is what Toyota's marketing manager in Australia, Sean Hanley, says in an interview with CarExpert.
– There is no plan to liquidate the Supra brand here in the company. I know that. BMW is not Toyota. The notion that the Supra will be phased out is pure speculation.
However, this is not the same as Toyota not saying goodbye to the Supra. So the current one. Presumably that car will be buried with the current Z4.

Where Toyota can hold its own is in the name itself. The Supra will probably become a new model. Maybe even continue with BMW's help. In any case, the two brands have just expanded their collaboration. Read more about it here.
It will also sound more than hollow if Toyota takes the life of a model name that the brand took more than 17 years to bring back. Here, however, it is worth adhering to Hanley's specific words.
The boss said in the interview that 'brand' doesn't really mean car model. This could mean that Toyota will make a whole umbrella of models under the Supra name. For example, as Ford has done with the Mustang, which is also an electric SUV.
