Small battery made Henrik's electric car twice as expensive

Henrik Spång was actually quite satisfied with the cost of servicing his Kia EV6. But it quickly turned out to be twice as expensive.

When the electric car owner Henrik Spång in Grästorp handed in his Kia EV6 for service for the first time, the bill came to approximately 3,000 Swedish kroner, equivalent to just over 2,000 Danish kroner. A price he was willing to pay.

But when the car next had to be serviced at 60,000 kilometers, the cost was significantly higher. The bill at the second service visit rose to SEK 6,785, more than doubling the first service cost.

The main reason for the price increase was the replacement of a small backup battery, which is part of the car's statutory SOS system. The system ensures that the car automatically calls the emergency center in the event of an accident. The replacement of the battery alone cost SEK 3,000.

Henrik Spång was surprised by the rising costs. But felt forced to accept the replacement when the Kia importer stated that service will not be complete otherwise.

Despite the answer he got, he sees it as unreasonable that such a small battery can cause the bill to rise so much.

– It is an unreasonable cost, he says to Aftonbladet .

Spång has subsequently expressed some skepticism towards the car manufacturer's motives. He believes that this may be a deliberate strategy on the part of the manufacturer. Just to make more money in the aftermarket.

He also points out that electric cars, compared to petrol and diesel cars, have fewer mechanical parts, which he says should lead to lower service costs.

But it is actually not a unique case that Henrik Spång is experiencing. Even claims can ruin the value of an electric car. A Polestar owner experienced this when his car was in the workshop for 90 hours after a wild collision. Read more about it here .
