Well-known charging operator goes bankrupt – 700 lose their jobs

700 employees have just lost their jobs, as their workplace EVBox has gone bankrupt. The company manufactured and sold charging stations.

The Dutch company EVBox, which has also sold charging stations in Denmark, has gone bankrupt. The company has sold charging stations to both companies and private individuals and has been owned by the French energy company ENGIE since 2017.

At the time, the French allegedly paid up to 800 million euros, equivalent to 6 billion Danish kroner. But now it has all turned upside down.

In recent months, ENGIE has tried to find a buyer for the charging operator, but it has only partially succeeded. Only one buyer for EVBox's French factory with 30 employees has signed up.

EVBox was founded in 2010 and is said to have set up up to 550,000 charging stations around Europe, including in Denmark. It is just one year since the company set a power record with a lightning charger called Troniq High Power.

The French managed to load with 400 kW. Even so, the Dutch media writes that the bankruptcy comes as a shock to the vast majority of employees.

The employees allegedly knew about the situation that their employer was in. Still, there was a belief that the whole thing would probably land safely on 'the other side'. But there hasn't been a demand that could support EVBox's business.
