BMW has long since buried the small electric car i3. But it is only now that another company is offering batteries with a longer range.
When BMW sold the i3 between 2013 and 2022, it amounted to 250,000 copies with three different battery sizes.
However, a production stop was needed, because some other than just the German brand did something about the range. And although several have criticized BMW for lagging behind precisely in terms of range,
However, the battery box itself had the same size regardless of the battery's capacity, which makes it easier to replace the battery with a new one with a higher capacity.
That's what Auto Motor und Sport writes.
It is German Mandrill Automotive that will put an even larger battery pack in BMW i3 models with 60 or 94 Ah batteries. The Germans claim that their 120 Ah large battery pack gives the BMW a significantly longer range.

Another solution, which also benefits the used i3s, is from the supplier Lion Smart. Namely, upgrading the i3 battery based on more modern chemistry. The capacity is increased to 147 Ah, and the charging power goes from 50 to 90 kW. They say there is a 10 year warranty with the battery.
– Then the BMW i3 will have a range of well over 400 kilometers, says Heiko Bölstler at Mandrill Automotive to the newspaper.
The downside to the upgrade is the price. The larger battery pack costs up to 13,200 euros when you add the installation on top. This corresponds to just under 100,000 Danish kroner. In comparison, there are several i3s for sale in Denmark for less.
